As a
"recreation destination" Salem offers unique advantages. Located in the heart of
the Ozark Gateway Region, Salem promises diversified and enjoyable vacationing
enhanced by the famous Ozark hospitality.
This largely natural area supports extensive populations of deer,
quail, rabbit, fox, raccoon, opossum and squirrel, delighting the
hunter.
For water
sports, the headwaters of the Southfork River, known for great
fishing and as a floater's paradise, are found in Fulton County near
Salem.
Mammoth Spring is located nearby on the Arkansas-Missouri border and
is the site for a state park. It is one of the largest natural springs
in the world, issuing 36,000,000 gallons of water every hour. Clearly,
the Gateway to the Parks Region is a water wonderland, filled with
streams and rivers and good times. |

Rising abruptly out of
the earth, the Ozark Mountains are the highest peaks in Mid-America. The
Appalachians in the East and the Rockies in the West are higher but when it
comes to vacations, the Ozarks can't be topped. |
